Frugal spend – w/e 20/03/16

Out of this week’s budget of £20.00, I have spent:

  • £1.50 – drink at work meeting
  • £0.99 – birthday card

Total £2.49, £17.51 moved to savings.

  • I received a £20 voucher last June when I changed jobs, and spent it on six balls of wool and a pair of knitting needles

Food shopping

Through a MoneySavingExpert deal I bought some high-quality meat:

  • Horseshoe gammon joint, lamb rump joint, streaky bacon, 4 flatiron steaks, 6 venison and red wine sausages, beef brisket joint – £35.00 (reduced)
  • Pork hock – £4.00
  • Pork cheeks – £6.00
  • Delivery – £4.95

Total – £49.95 – this will come from our eating out budget since we don’t have enough left in our food budget.

  • Pork shoulder – £3.95
  • Beef shin – £1.69 (reduced)
  • Honey roast ham – £0.89 (reduced)
  • Drury Lane ham – £0.59 (reduced)
  • Pork loin and rosemary x 3 – £2.47 (reduced)
  • Organic bacon – £3.00
  • Cheddar – £0.89 (reduced)
  • Dolcelatte – £0.99 (reduced)
  • Grapes – £0.49 (reduced)
  • Bag – £0.05 (I always have bags with me, but because I bought more reduced items than expected, I needed an extra bag today)
  • Carrots – £0.10 (reduced)
  • Apples – £1.50
  • Cauliflower – £1.00
  • Pears – £0.80
  • Marinated peppers – £1.30
  • Sauerkraut – £1.10
  • Olives – £2.50

Subtotal – £23.31

Total – £23.31

Running total for March – monthly budget £146.62 (£3.38 overspend in February), £123.85 spent, £22.77 remaining.

We have overspent on food for the last few months, so I’m thinking of increasing the budget to £175. I currently have £200 allowed from our budget, but put £50 aside each month to cover eating out. However, we don’t eat out very often so that could safely be reduced to £25 per month.

Counselling savings- £83.46/£435 (to cover initial consultation and ten sessions) – 19%
